‘Supergirl,’ ‘The Flash’ cast ‘Glee’ alum Darren Criss to be villain Music Meister; how awesome is it?

Supergirl -While we know that there were many people out there who wanted Neil Patrick Harris to reprise his role as Music Meister for the upcoming “Supergirl” / “The Flash” musical crossover, the following bit of casting news is equally as awesome.

As first reported by TVLine, former “Glee” star Darren Criss is set to join such fellow alumni as Melissa Benosit and Grant Gustin on the CW shows as the character. Music Meister is a villain who uses music as is weapon, and is the means by which many of these other characters are going to end up belting a tune. (Fun fact: This is not the first time that Criss has reprised a role once played by Harris — he also did so for “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” on Broadway. Harris never played Music Meister in the flesh — just in animated form.)

In a statement confirming this news, “Supergirl” / “The Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg passed along the following message:

“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss? We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”

This casting is rather perfect, simply because you know that some of the chemistry between the cast members is already there, not to mention the vocal chops. It will also have “Glee” fans all the more excited to tune in, especially since it’s been a little bit since we had an opportunity to see Darren in a singing role on television. Now that we know that he has the part, we almost wish that this was a story lasting longer than just a couple of episodes airing in March.
