‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ episode 7 preview: Is Chael Sonnen facing ‘triple termination’?

Chael Sonnen

Going into this season of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” we absolutely know that Chael Sonnen was set up to be one of the most-notorious characters of the season. Maybe he’s a great dude in real life, but he had zero issue preseason putting on the black hat and playing the role of mustache-twirling bad guy.

So far this season, we’ve only seen that super-cutthroat side of him once, and that was in throwing Ricky Williams under the bus after his team lost the Welch’s Grape Juice task. At that point, it didn’t amount to much just because Eric Dickerson made it so easy on himself to be fired. Most of the teams that he’s been a part of have done really well, and when you’re that successful, there’s really no reason to stir up trouble.

On Monday night’s new episode, that may be changing. While we’ve come to know over the years that promos can be very misleading, this one really wants you to think that Chael’s responsible for stirring up some sort of trouble — to the point that he’s causing the biggest “scandal” of the season. Is it as ridiculous as the whole “tweeting” controversy from last season with Vivica A. Fox and Kenya Moore? That sets a high bar for nonsense, so whatever this one is, odds are it’s a tad more serious. Maybe it’s just too cutthroat for its own good and Chael could be in danger of a certain movie quote from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

If he’s really the person responsible for stirring the pot, it’s a big risk — sometimes, these can cause you to move forward in the game — other times, these can get you sent out the door sooner rather than later.

Villainy aside, we do think that Chael’s done a great job on the show so far. He is partly responsible for winning the See’s candy task thanks to his astounding Warren Buffett knowledge, he’s contributed in every one to date, and even with the Welch’s task it’s not as thought it was a completely blowout. We’ve seen on this before that you can wear the black hat and win; we’ll just see what transpires come tomorrow night when THREE people are terminated (hence the title). That increases the odds of Chael leaving … though that’s a pretty stupid statement since it increases the odds of EVERYONE leaving.
