‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Could a musical episode be coming up?
How about this as a story we did not see coming today? It’s starting to look more like some members of the “Once Upon a Time” cast are going to be doing something that they haven’t quite done before now: Sing!
According to a report from TVLine, the show is quietly (well, not so quietly at the moment) preparing a musical episode that is going to be airing at some point in the spring. It’s not entirely clear what the story behind this said idea is, but we wonder if it could be tied in some way to either some spell from the Evil Queen or something that comes about in the wish-world alternate universe, provided of course that the show is still around in it at the time in which we get to this story.
On the paper, it does make some sense that the series would want to go in a musical direction. These are installments that do tend to draw rather enormous ratings, and get a ton of attention where other specials do not typically. On paper, it seems as though this could be fantastic! It certainly makes more sense given the themes of magic and fairy-tales than even the one coming with “Supergirl” and “The Flash.”
This is the sort of episode, though, that you really have to judge more after it airs than beforehand, given that many of these episodes in our mind are rather polarizing. Not every show can be “Once More, with Feeling” from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The “Psych” musical and the “Scrubs” episode of the same variety were both fantastic; however, we didn’t care so much for when “Grey’s Anatomy” tried to do something with these sort of themes. To us, these episodes seem to work better for shows with comedic leanings just because of the fact that it’s not as big of a tonal shift as it is for a drama to suddenly try to look on the bright side of things with a song in their heart.
