In some ways, “Veronica Mars” is a show that’s already been luckier than most. After all, the former UPN / CW series received a feature-film treatment, and it had a chance to update everyone on its story after it was canceled long before its time so many years ago.
Yet, at the same time isn’t it still very much great to potentially have more? You never want to turn away more of a great thing, and that is why we are more than happy that there are some discussions geared around bringing the show, back … though it’s not entirely clear how it would happen. Speaking to TVLine while at TCA promoting his new show “iZombie,” show creator Rob Thomas did make it clear that there is an interest from both him and Kristen Bell in making it happen — the challenge is the logistics of it:
“Kristen and I both want to figure out some way we could do a six-episode Veronica Mars mystery … If I were a betting man, I bet that it will happen. I just don’t know when it will be.”
One of the biggest issues per Thomas is just trying to find the right time, given that he is working on his show (plus developing “Lost Boys”) a big chunk of the year, while Bell also is starring now on NBC’s “The Good Place,” a show that is likely to return based on some of the recent ratings. Bell’s status on this show also means that she will need approval to work on another long-form television project; it’s one thing to get an OK to do an episode or two of another show (which we do often get to see happen) than it is to go and do a six-episode run somewhere else. Thomas suggested Netflix as a home for it, and that may work just because NBC could see it as a little less direct competition than another broadcast network.
We will let you know if there are any other major updates on the project. For now, just be sure to tell us below if you want to see this revival happen! (Photo: CW.)
