‘The Bachelor’: Why Vanessa Grimaldi is Nick Viall’s most-likable contender so far

Vanessa -It’s one thing for someone on “The Bachelor” to do something controversial, and then it’s another thing altogether to watch it back and deal with some of the inevitable aftermath that goes along with it. This is something that Nick Viall was forced to do in the wake of this past episode, mostly because of the way that he and Corinne Olympios behaved herself in the bouncy-castle during the pool party.

It feels like there is so much that could be said in those scenes. Maybe Nick regrets that he took it so far, or maybe he doesn’t. Either way, we’re not going to try and read his mind on that; all we can say from the outside looking in is that he should have had more self-awareness to the fact that some other people could be watching him. He didn’t have to do anything in a way to devalue her enthusiasm, but he could have been like “this is fun, but we need to be careful and I don’t want to go too far in front of the other women.” There are some parts of this that will be ingrained in the brains of many people for quite some time.

Ultimately, the part of this whole ordeal that may be the most memorable in the end is Vanessa Grimaldi’s reaction and the way she approached her confrontation with Nick after the fact. Remember that she already had the one-on-one date, and having that rose was a way to embolden her, to know that there were some feelings there between the two of them. However, at the same time she was not looking at the situation through love-goggles and viewing him as a perfect person. Her quote about not judging Corinne, but judging Nick instead for his actions was perfect. She made it clear that while she is aware that this is a competition with other women, she still had a certain expectation of what she wanted if she was to be a part of the show.

This may be the moment that causes Nick to start to rethink a thing or two about how he is handling himself so far on the season, and also how much leeway he does choose to give Corinne.

What so many viewers want on “The Bachelor” sometimes, other than romance and trackwrecks of course, is something that they haven’t seen before. Adult relationships with conflict, interestingly, are not often high on the list. We do tend to see relationships where the woman confronts the man, and then gets sent home not too much further after the fact as a result of it. Or, we see conflict in a way that is screaming or meant to cause drama for the cameras. This wasn’t the case here — it was rational, which may have been why so many people out there responded to it. Plus, there was something very human about her getting sick on the one-on-one date and trying to hide it. t’s a little more realistic than the frequent “fairytale” spouting that we tend to get from these things the vast majority of the time.
