Alec Baldwin may not appear on ‘SNL’ tonight, but he’s got other plans for Donald Trump
Given everything that happened this week with Donald Trump, it absolutely feels like there is PLENTY of material for Alec Baldwin to work with on “Saturday Night Live.”
Unfortunately, it’s not entirely clear if we’re going to see the actor in action tonight. He has not shared any footage or photos on social media of himself preparing for the gig tonight, which is something that he’s done in the past. Moreover, he told “Extra” in a new interview that he would be appearing on the upcoming January 21 episode hosted by Aziz Ansari. He is going to be there to play off of everything that happens in the Inauguration, and there is probably going to be quite a bit of material that he gets from that.
Will it be funny? We certainly assume so, and we’re facing the reality that following this, the appearances may be a little more limited. There tend to be fewer political cold opens outside of election season, and Baldwin’s a busy guy who also has very young children. He’s gotta sleep at some point! (The reason we even bring this up is that he mentions not watching the Golden Globes in the interview because he wanted to get some shut-eye.)
If you don’t end up seeing Alec this week, rest assured that there are some other venues in which you will be able to see him speaking more of his mind directly. As Michael Moore shared on social media, on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Eastern the two actors alongside Mark Ruffalo are going to be holding a rally outside of the Trump International Hotel in New York. Rallies are something the President-elect knows rather well, as they were a building block of his campaign. There’s probably going to be a ton of attention paid to this, mostly because there’s been a ton of attention played to EVERYTHING over the course of the election.
Tonight’s show one way or another has the potential to be very funny, given that you’ve got Felicity Jones stopping by as host, and judging from the latest preview, odds are that Pete Davidson will have more of a presence as a cast member than he has over the past several weeks.
Update: Alec did turn up! Surprise!
