‘Homeland’ season 6, episode 1 preview: Carrie’s new life; Saul’s new challenge

Over a year has passed between the end of “Homeland” season 5 and where we are entering Sunday night’s season 6 premiere, so it feels almost like an understatement to say anticipation is high. This is a beloved series with critics and viewers alike, and all indications suggest that a timely and powerful bunch of episodes are coming up.

In preparation for this, we have a preview for you below that is certainly worth checking out! This promo gives you a widespread sense of some of the stories that are coming up, and there are two in particular that stand out to us.

Carrie – She’s now back in America after multiple seasons overseas, trying to give both herself and her daughter some essence of stability. In the process, she has a new career where she is effectively working to ensure the safety and security of many Muslims in the country. They’re often profiled and targeted, and the vast majority of the time, they didn’t do anything to deserve such treatment. Her time in other countries makes her uniquely qualified to take a lot of this on.

In the process of learning more about her life, we’re also going to see what could be the beginnings of a home-grown terrorist plot after a young man is arrested for some suspicious internet activity. It remains to be seen if he is actually guilty of something, but this is a case that Carrie could look into.

Saul – Meanwhile, Mandy Patinkin’s character is in New York working on briefing the new President-elect of everything that they need to know in order to properly run the country. Intelligence briefings are certainly prominent right now, and in a way that may be a little too relevant to real world events in the eyes of some. We’re going to get a chance to see how Saul handles dealing with a politician who has wide-ranging views, and some of them could prove damaging to the country unless they steered in another direction.

Eventually, we imagine that the paths of Carrie and Saul are going to be brought together; for the time being, however, it remains a mystery as to precisely how that will happen.
