‘Top Chef: Charleston’ episode 7 reaction: Jamie makes history
Anytime that you see a show “make history” that is fourteen seasons in, you have to consider it something special. Well, this is precisely what we saw happen on Thursday’s new episode of “Top Chef” as a contestant did something that has never happened before.
We’ll discuss this a little bit more at length in the latest review coming up a little bit later this week, but for now, we just wanna get to what is clearly a hot topic at the moment: The decision for Jamie to give up immunity. He obviously felt like it was the right thing to do, but it’s something that has now kept him from winning the show outright. (There’s always “Last Chance Kitchen,” but still.)
If you think back over the years of the show, we’ve certainly seen plenty of examples of people who would have gone home were it not for having this. We don’t think anyone would have blamed him if he chose to keep the immunity, but sometimes, contestants play with different things in mind besides winning. Jamie had to know that giving it up meant that he was going to be going home, but he did so anyway. The judges were shocked, but he didn’t make the move under duress and he knew what he was doing.
As a guy, we do think that this move on Jamie’s part proved further that he is a super-nice guy and someone who cares about the team around him. Maybe that serves him really well after the show. If you’re going to go home, then why not be memorable? Jamie’s now going to be remembered in a way that over a hundred other chefs will not be.
