‘The Defenders’ photo: First look at Sigourney Weaver
If you are excited to see “The Defenders” finally arrive on Netflix a little bit later this year, allow us to be the first to say that we’re right there with you. This is a show that is bringing a lot to the table, and with that, there is of course a tremendous amount of stuff to be excited to see … even if a certain degree of it remains wrapped in mystery.
Take, for example, the new photo that we’ve got for you below. This image is your first clear look at Sigourney Weaver on the show. The legendary movie star, whose other recent TV credit was the fantastic “Political Animals,” is going to be playing a woman named Alexandra. For the time being, that is all that is known for sure beyond that she is a woman who holds great power. Does that mean that she actually has powers? That’s not something that the producers are speaking about for now.
You can see a first-look photo of her below courtesy of Entertainment Weekly; meanwhile, here is what executive producer Marco Ramirez told the website:
“Sigourney is the kind of person you can buy as the smartest person in the room, who you can also buy as a person holding a flamethrower. Her character is a very powerful force in New York City. She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous … I’m sorry. I can only say a bunch of adjectives right now.”
The obviously parallel to draw here is between her and Fisk, given that the Kingpin is the most powerful person we’ve arguably seen in New York City to date on the show. Yet, it’s simultaneously probably a little quick to draw many parallels between the two, mostly because it is still so early and there is still so much to be revealed. Ramirez was so vague with his quote that this character could feasibly morph into a million or so different permutations by the time the show is actually on the air.
