‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Show bosses tease Katie Cassidy story ahead

Black CanaryGoing into the “Arrow” hiatus last month, the show had set up a pretty-awesome cliffhanger: The return of one Laurel Lance. Or, was this really Laurel Lance at all?

The unfortunate thing for the show producers is that there was a promo released by The CW over the holidays that more or less gave the twist away: This person is not Laurel. Maybe this is the Earth-2 Black Siren, or another version of the character altogether. We don’t know. However, what is confirmed at the moment is that the old Laurel is not coming back.

We’re sure that there is a part of executive producer Marc Guggenheim that makes him want to suit up with a bow and arrow after seeing that someone released that promo, but he kept his potential frustration in-check while speaking on the subject of the story for Katie Cassidy in a new interview with TVLine:

“Without commenting on the promo, which I have nothing to do with … [and] without commenting on the spoiler, I would say that the episode ends with laying a very specific seed, with a very specific game plan on our part that we hope to see come to fruition.”

We absolutely know that this is far from the last time that we’re going to be seeing Cassidy on The CW in 2017. She’s a series regular across all of the programs, which leaves open the possibility that even if she doesn’t stick around on “Arrow,” there’s a good chance that we will be seeing her on either “The Flash” or “Legends of Tomorrow” coming up in the future. Who knows? Maybe someone throws her over into the “Supergirl” universe and she can get into a screaming match with the Silver Banshee.

Anyhow, “Arrow” returns to The CW on Wednesday, January 25. There’ll be a chance to hand down some further information and clues after that.
