‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ gives you a ‘Hidden Fences’ trailer after Golden Globes gaffe
It was only a matter of time before one of the comedy shows on TV jumped on board the whole “Hidden Fences” gag, and the first one to go for it was none other than “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Last night, the CBS series gave you a ridiculously funny trailer for what could be this movie, a mash-up of two Golden Globe-nominated films in “Hidden Figures” and “Fences.” The joke around this stemmed from both “Today Show” commentator Jenna Bush Hager and Michael Keaton both mistakenly calling “Hidden Fences” a movie during the awards show on Sunday; Hager later apologized for the gaffe, saying that it was just an honest mistake and there was no malicious intent behind the remark.
The trailer below is pretty funny, in between turning the fence into an actual character in the movie as well as the joke that Americans tend to think that all movies starring predominantly black casts are the same movie.
In the end, we don’t think the trailer is meant to come down too hard on either Hager or Keaton, since their mistakes seem to be fairly minimal in comparison to everything else that is going on in the world. At the moment, the best thing that either one of them can do is apologize, and then try to laugh all of this off while moving forward and seeing what the future holds for them. This doesn’t feel like the sort of thing that anyone is going to hold onto forever, unless you just consider yourself the type who wants to hold on to this thing like nobody’s business.
What do you think: Is “Hidden Fences” a great movie, or the greatest movie to quote Colbert’s famed Comedy Central character? Share now in the attached comments, and we’ll have further news on all things late-night coming in the future.
