‘The Voice UK’ coach will.i.am on changes to show’s pace on ITV
Speaking in a new interview with Digital Spy, coach will.i.am had the following to say about what he thinks are some of the key differences between the show that is here now, and the one that we had on the air last year on BBC One:
“I didn’t know [when we were filming] last season’s that it would be slower. You’re just doing your thing – it’s a normal day at work.
“And then when you watch it, you’re like, ‘Wow, that’s slow’. It just lost it … After last year, I was bored.”
There were several reasons why last year’s show didn’t work. The chemistry between the coaches was off, the positive vibe went away, and you didn’t get the sense that everyone’s heart was really in it with the move to a new network coming in the near future. “The Voice” also has some fundamental problems as a series, as well: The auditions last for far too many episodes, the Battle Rounds are excruciating, and there aren’t enough live shows and opportunities to get to know the artists. It’s not that hard to figure out why these performers fail to have big careers after the fact; even with a more supportive record company, their fame from this show is so temporary because you barely get to know them.
We’ll hopefully get a better chance to compare this season to the ones that came before it as we get a little bit further in.
