Hulu snags exclusive ‘black-ish’ streaming rights
When it comes to Hulu and their roster of comedy programming, the rich just got richer.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the popular streaming service, who already hold the rights to “Seinfeld” and a wide array of other top-tier comedy programming (not to mention originals like “The Mindy Project” and “Casual”) have acquired the exclusive streaming rights to “black-ish.” This means that if you want to watch old episodes via a specific streaming provider, this is the place in which to do this.
If you missed it, “black-ish” joins “The Goldbergs” in being another comedy project airing on ABC in which Hulu has the rights to.
Ultimately, think of this lucrative deal as a precursor to an off-network syndication one that will be coming for the show a little bit later on in the run. These are deals that can generate a significant amount of money, and appeal your show to new crowds who hadn’t seen it before. Take a look, for example, at one in “Last Man Standing,” which is doing incredibly well off of ABC despite being a Friday-night show on it that doesn’t necessarily get enormous ratings.
What this also means further is that this is a show that the network has no plans to move away from for a rather-long time, but we also feel at the same time like this was a show they were likely to be keeping in their arsenal for a rather-long period of time anyway. The ratings for it remain consistently great, and it’s up for some Golden Globe Awards tomorrow. Basically, there is zero reason to consider doing anything otherwise with the show.
