Gary Barlow not concerned about ‘Let It Shine’ – ‘X Factor’ comparisons

Let It Shine -

Tomorrow on the BBC, we’re going to see the launch of a brand-new singing-show experiment in “Let It Shine” — and for now, the series’ biggest star in Gary Barlow is ready to celebrate that more so than he is be concerned over a show like “The X Factor” being viewed as similar to his own. We’ve heard various reports about Simon Cowell or his production company threatening this-or-that when it comes to the show’s future, but at the same exact time, we’re not entirely sure how much we should make of all of this — if anything at all.

What we can at least tell you now is that Gary isn’t worried about any comparisons, and feels like there shouldn’t be too much tension between him and Cowell at all. Speaking in a new interview with the Mirror, Barlow had the following to say:

“This show is no threat to any of [Cowell’s] shows. It’s not on in a time period when any of his shows are on. I’ve always been a big fan of The X Factor and a big fan of Simon as a TV personality, and of the person I’ve met throughout the years.

“I’m not very close to him, I never have been, but this show is of no threat to any of his businesses.”

Barlow is a former “X Factor” judge, so the two likely had at least some relationship through that — after all, Simon remained an executive producer even when he was not on the show itself. We do figure that in due time, the ice will probably cool here if there even is any. After all, even though the premise of “Let It Shine” is similar in that there are auditions and judges, the same can be said for almost any talent show out there. The biggest difference here is that for this particular series, you are getting to see contestants audition to be in a tribute band, one that has a more practical approach to launching a music career.
