Could ‘Days of Our Lives’ be canceled in favor of Megyn Kelly daytime show?

Days -

Anyone who watches daytime TV at this point likely knows one thing about it more so than anything else: It’s a battlefield. There are few environments out there anywhere near as competitive, both in terms of the number of options out there, and in terms of the similarities between many of them. For the most part, daytime programming is built into three different sections: Daytime dramas, syndicated shows, and then various talk / news programs. For one reason of another, the shows in syndication are holding their own a little better than the other two.

In particular, daytime dramas are in shark-infested waters, and what this means in particular for “Days of Our Lives” is that the show could be in some deep trouble thanks to the decision by NBC to hand over a daytime talk / news series featuring former Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

According to People Magazine, there are some people aboard the long-running show (which has been on the air for more than 50 years!) that there is a good chance that there will not be new episodes on the air in 2018. The show could be moved out to make the time for Kelly, and there’s long been a sentiment that there is a certain degree of danger surrounding it. “Days” has been renewed on a season-by-season basis for some time, and we’ve already seen many other prominent soap operas such as “One Life to Live” and “All My Children” go the way of the dodo thanks to other programming coming in. (Ironically, one of the reasons why those shows left ABC was to make way for a talk show, now canceled, hosted by a former news anchor in Katie Couric.)

We’ll ultimately see what happens, but if you are a dedicated “Days” viewer, we’d recommended that you stay as loyal as possible and try to rally your friends and fellow viewers to do what you can to support the show now. It may not be there tomorrow.
