‘This Is Us’ episode 11 spoilers: Show boss promises answers on Toby

After a lengthy wait, next week marks the return of “This Is Us” to NBC’s lineup — and with that, you are finally going to have answers to one of the show’s biggest cliffhangers at the moment in the fate of Toby. The last time that we saw the character, he was effectively near death as a result of a heart attack. It’s possible that he makes it to the hospital in time to be saved, just as at the same time, it’s also possible that he ends up not making it through alive. While the show to date has teased many of their storylines, they have done a good job keeping this one a mystery for the time being.

When the show returns, however, it won’t be a mystery for too long at all. As executive producer Dan Fogelman tells Entertainment Weekly, “you find out if he made it in the first five minutes of the episode.” From there, you will have a chance to see what the precise aftermath is one way or another. Regardless of if he lives or dies, this moment may inspire Kate all the further to continue her weight-loss journey, given that Toby’s heart attack came mostly as a result of him being in such poor health.

As for what else is coming up in the episode, Fogelman also teased that we will be going back once more to a time before Jack and Rebecca were parents, where we can see a little bit more of who they were, and also how the story then evolved for us to see the people that both them and their children are in the present. There are still many more episodes to come over the next two months, and we imagine that they will continue to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

At some point over the next few weeks, we also would be rather surprised if NBC does not reveal that the show is coming back for a second season. As of right now, this feels like the biggest slam dunk out there.
