‘The Bachelor’ video: Joel McHale resolves Alexis Waters’ shark – dolphin costume debate

Nick -There were several moments of contention during “The Bachelor” premiere, but also some moments of pure madness. One of the more notable ones was Alexis Waters, who made the decision to dress up like a “dolphin” for the first night. After all, this was clearly a shark, and she was just trying to pretend to make herself feel better.

Luckily, we have Joel McHale to come out and be the voice of reason! In the video below from the “Bachelor” special on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” early this week, he gives a hilarious take on the whole shark vs. dolphin debate, which was really only funny because of Alexis (who is listed as an “aspiring dolphin trainer”) refusing to acknowledge that she was dressed like a different aquatic animal.

One of the other things that we do very much appreciate about Joel’s appearance here is that he seems to put many people in their place in terms of their claims that their friends “signed them up” for the experience of being on the show. He claims that this is simply impossible, given all of the stuff that a person has to go through in the casting process. In theory, he’s right — it does feel like the contestants are trying to get out of any responsibility for being a part of this madness by saying that someone else pushed them into it.

Also, Joel does something in here that causes us to forever think differently about the way Nick smiles in the middle of his conversations — basically, we can never think of Nick now without imagining this. Thanks to Joel for changing our whole world! If only we could get him to provide this sort of commentary for every episode of the show, since we figure we’d be in a much better place.
