‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7B promo: The big picture and beyond
Even though the final ten episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” are not coming up on Freeform until the spring, we’ll give the network a little bit of credit: They’ve done a good job of hyping that up and releasing a few assorted promos about if over the course of the run. The latest example of that comes via the new “Playtime” clip below.
This promo makes the most of its thirty seconds: It’s powerful, nostalgic, but also at the same time not overly reflective. It’s not just akin to watching a highlight reel. The biggest purpose that it serves is reminding you of some of the show’s overall themes, and also what many of the main characters have been through so far. These are women who’ve seen themselves go through hell and back, especially in terms of the torment that they’ve suffered at the hands of “A,” “A.D.,” and pretty much everyone else with initials.
There are answers coming at the end of the series, but there is one other subject that we’ve thought about and considered: Just how happy are their lives going to be moving into the future? One of the defining characteristics of the show to date is that these characters have, in one way or another, almost always been watched. We don’t get a clear indication that this would change once the central villain of the show is thwarted. They’re celebrities all of a sudden in the way that many other survivors are, and there will be so many questions fired their way.
Think about it: The inquisitive people out there may not be thinking altogether maliciously in terms of their wide array of questions towards the Liars, but at the same exact time, would not realize just how invasive they could be being to people who just at this point want a normal life. We’re sure that these women would like nothing more at this point to celebrate true independence from the many plagues of Rosewood and beyond.
Who knows? Maybe this is a pessimistic view of the future … but it is something to think about as the “game” is ratcheted up.
While you wait for the show’s premiere this spring, tell us what you want to see in the comments!
