Mariah Carey spokesperson comments on ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ performance fallout
Could Mariah Carey have handled the controversial performance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve a little bit better? At the moment, we have to assume that the answer to that is “yes” just because what actually happened was nothing short of a hot mess. There were some excuses thrown out there, Carey was visibly upset, and it appeared either like either the backing track went out on her songs or she couldn’t hear herself properly.
One way or another, the reaction hasn’t been good — but according to her spokesperson, it seems like she’s taking the stance now of that there isn’t really too much that could’ve been done differently in order to make things a little bit better. Here is what Nicole Perna told the Associated Press on Sunday:
“Unfortunately there was nothing she could do to continue with the performance given the circumstances.”
As regrettable as the moment may have been, at the same exact time the thing about Carey is that she has a tendency to almost always bounce back, no matter what the adversity or whatever it is that you throw at her. One way or another, she finds a way to get herself back together and back up on the horse. She has “Mariah’s World” airing over on E!, and when you have the reputation for being one of the biggest pop stars arguably in the history of music, odds are that there are going to be other people and shows interested in hiring you. Maybe this gets her some criticism on social media, but at the same time we have a feeling that it’s not going to slow her down at all in terms of her career. Remember, “Glitter” certainly didn’t slow her down in the slightest.
