Is ‘Madam Secretary’ season 3, episode 11 new tonight on CBS? Tonight’s alternatives

MadamWhile today is New Year’s Day, this may not actually be as barren a night as you would think in terms of there being some new programming on the air. In addition to all of the sports stuff that is taking place in between college and football, CBS tonight is airing a new installment of “Pure Genius,” the premiere of Canadian import “Ransom,” and then also a repeat of “NCIS: Los Angeles.” The lineup is adjusted due to the NFL, and is going to start airing at around 8:30 p.m. Eastern time pending some last-second delays.

What all of this does mean, alas, is that there is once again no new episode of “Madam Secretary” coming on the air. Luckily, we at least know that this will be the last week we’re going to have to say that for at least the next 14 or so days.

Next week, the series is going to return with “Gift Horse,” an episode written by Barbara Hall that will feature a rather complicated issue for Elizabeth as she has to figure out whether or not to keep a live animal given to the State Department by Mongolia. There could be some touches of humor in here — after all, we do certainly get that sense in the sneak peek that you can check out over at the link here.

Following this, there’ll be another episode entitled “The Detour,” and then the schedule starts to get a little more unclear. As fans of this show at this point likely know, there is always a hot-and-cold schedule at around this time because of the sole fact that there are so many different awards shows coming on the air. The fact that we’re getting a new episode next week against the Golden Globes is surprising in some ways, but we’re still grateful to have it.

So while you wait for Elizabeth McCord and company to return, we recommend checking out either some of the programming above or re-watching some old episodes — knowing what we know now about Sam Evans’ plans to sue over Ohio, it does add a little more drama to some scenes that we saw before we had that knowledge.
