Kathy Griffin cuts cameraman’s beard, wraps Anderson Cooper in tinfoil on CNN New Year’s Eve

CNN -

In our final article tonight about CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration, we turn to what was the “main event” of sorts from host Kathy Griffin as she tried to antagonize Anderson Cooper to new heights — and specifically, this time around it had to do with one of the members of his own crew.

In the middle of the fourth hour, Griffin brought out one of the cameramen, a guy with a rather large beard, out in front of the camera and threatened to start cutting his beard off if Anderson Cooper didn’t answer her questions. He couldn’t say who he voted for, and he also wouldn’t say how much money he has. Therefore, the poor man’s beard — which apparently took him a whopping five years to grow — is now gone.

As if this wasn’t enough (and it was rather ridiculous), we did see her later attempt to wrap Anderson in tinfoil in honor of the show’s tin anniversary. That did not go well, but the Wolf Blitzer mask was moderately funny.

Overall, we do have to regrettably say that this was probably one of the weaker New Year’s Eve outings on the network, largely because they took away one of our favorite segments: The ridiculous remote where you saw some incredibly stupid New Year’s Eve tradition. For us, we don’t think that watching a music note drop in Nashville is good enough. Also, the Miami segment about the club performance felt completely unneeded and unoriginal. Give us more of the cruise ship, more of Don Lemon, and of course plenty of Anderson and Kathy being ridiculous. That’s why we are here, and why this is one of the best shows out there.

If you missed it, head over here to see Don Lemon actually getting his ear pierced on live TV. It happened, and we have to imagine that it was rather painful. (Photo: CNN.)
