‘Longmire’ season 6: What should the endgame be for Cady Longmire?
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve done our best to frame the final season of “Longmire” through a wide array of different pieces, with each one of them chronicling what the story should look like in the final season for a certain major character. Given that we know the end is near now, it gives us that chance to think with a final resolution in mind, and given that the majority of the main characters are good, likable people, we don’t have some sort of sadistic desire to see any character suffer.
For the character of Cady Longmire, she deserves a little bit of happiness one way or another in the final season after everything she was put through in season 5. She was forced to fire a gun, she was pressured extensively by Jacob Nighthorse for his own political gain, and the relationship with her and Walt crumbled. Given that New Year’s Eve does feel like the perfect time for resolutions, here’s some of what we have in mind for Cassidy Freeman’s character.
1. Success, but independent success – There’s no denying that her law practice at the reservation is the direct result of one Jacob Nighthorse and his fortune. For it to feel flourishing by the end of the final season, we’d like to either see her cut ties and find a way to separate her business from him, or ultimately see the tribe turn against him, giving her more freedom to operate on the land without him trying to enforce the hires or policies that benefit him. This would show Walt that she made the right decision taking the money from him, but that in the end, she doesn’t need Nighthorse to flourish.
2. Get her and Walt on the same page – We’d like to see them collaborate on some sort of case moving forward, that way we get her a little more on the front lines and also allow the two of them to have a unified purpose. It’d be silly to think that their issues can evaporate in a day, but some progress would be useful.
3. Strength without a love interest – While there are some characters who could benefit from romance, we see Cady’s journey being more about a young woman showing that she can be a respected power on her own. Maybe after she gets everything she wants in terms of her career, she can then figure out a way to do something with her love life if she so chooses.
4. Large-scale change – In real life, we saw with the Dakota Access Pipeline that a tribal community can unite and bring in other people to their cause. We’d love to see her more as someone responsible for creating unity, and helping to make life easier for people in the reservation in some capacity. Maybe you give Mathias more authority, or find a way to help close some legal loopholes that have been key stumbling blocks for the entire series.

There 10 remaining 60 minute episodes to wrap up Walt’s lawsuit; what happens to Henry, Malachi’and Nighthorse: what happens regarding Vic and Walt and Vic’s pregnancy; resolve Walt’s TBI issues, what happens to Cady; who is Cowboy Bill a death threat does he represent: The writers there so many knives in the air not all can be resolved – most will find them embbed in fans backs for trusting the writers

What a great list! I’d like to see her work with other tribal lawyers, rather than give the impression that she’s the lone iconic beam for tribal rights. As for the show, it’s unique amongst the other offerings on any network and it serves its demographic well. I’m sad to see it go, but would love a Cady Longmire spin off –in fact, of the characters, it’s the only one that makes the most sense. Cady Longmire on a team of tribal rights lawyers who travels back and forth between the reservation and DC, would be equally unique.

If only! It’s going to be tough to see it go, but I am grateful for six seasons. It was looking dicey after season 3.
