Golden Globes 2017: Will ‘The Night Of,’ ‘American Crime Story,’ or ‘The Night Manager’ win Limited Series / TV Movie?
With the rise of Limited Series across several different TV networks, we’ll admit that it has spiked up our interest in the Limited Series / TV Movie category at the Golden Globes about a million times higher than it used to be. This category has gone from being the boring part of the show to one that produces some genuine drama — even if we do think that this time around in particular, we’re going to be in for a rather predictable result.
Below, you can get a full analysis on the category, and be sure to also vote for your favorite from the field! We’ll be back alter to look at some of the biggest snubs, and whether or not one of them should’ve been nominated this time around.
The nominees
American Crime (ABC)
The Dresser (Starz)
The Night Manager (AMC)
The Night Of (HBO)
The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story (FX)
Who will win – It’s going to be “The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story,” and there is probably not even a moment needed to stop and debate it. This was widely considered to be the best-reviewed show of 2016, and it has amazing performances through the roof. We’d say that the only real sleeper here is “The Night Of,” which may benefit slightly “American Crime Story” fatigue since that show’s won so many different awards already over the course of the year and isn’t as fresh in anyone’s mind. All of these shows did air before the fall, so there is no clear recency bias.
Who should win – Once again, it’s “The People v. OJ Simpson.” It’s probably our pick for the best show of the entire year, and as much as we enjoyed “The Night Of” (our #2 pick) and “The Night Manager” (#3), they just didn’t come to that level and we don’t want to claim that another show should win just for the sake of being edgy or controversial.
