‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch gets reflective before new season premieres
For all fans of “Sherlock,” we are starting to get to a pivotal point in the series’ run: The fourth season looks as though it is going to be the most intense yet, and it is also the one with the greatest bit of uncertainty.
As we advised yesterday, our advice for you is to watch and enjoy it, and potentially spend a little less time trying to fret extensively over whether or not a season 5 happens. We’re grateful to have made it this far with the series, but at the same time we’re very much aware of the fact that this could be the end. You get some of that more than ever before in what some of the show’s cast members are also saying about it; for example, just take a look at what Benedict Cumberbatch noted to the Telegraph about how it’s almost impossible to envision a future path for the series at present:
“This new series goes to a place where it will be hard to follow on immediately … We never say never on the show, but in the immediate future we all have things we want to crack on with, and we’ve made something very complete as it its. So I think we’ll just have to wait and see”
In general, there is so much to look forward to this season before we get to that point of stress and uncertainty. You have the arrival of John and Mary Watson’s child, Sherlock trying to become a protector for said child like never before, and then also the arrival of one Culverton Smith, the most notorious adversary in the history of the entire franchise. There is a lot to fear about the new series in terms of what it could mean for the characters, but if we want compelling television, don’t we also want to see them in distress? We do like to think that this is a necessary part of the equation.
