‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4 spoilers: Problems and ‘The Patriot’

Jeffrey Mace a.k.a. The Patriot so far on “Agents of SHIELD” this season has been more than a welcome addition. For one, you’ve got a great actor in Jason O’Mara on the role; to go along with that, it’s easy to appreciate the way in which the producers are handling his characterization in particular. It would be rather easy to easily depict the guy as an opposing force to Coulson and the rest of SHIELD because he does at times have differing views; it creates more of an accurate reflection to real life, where sometimes you work with someone that you don’t always get along with, and you do figure out ways to get on the same page here and there even when it proves to be rather difficult.

Is it possible that we could see Mace become more of a villain moving forward this season? We have to consider it, at the very least, a possibility. Per SpoilerTV, the 10th episode of season 4 airing in January is entitled “The Patriot,” Coulson and Mack are going to learn something rather dangerous about Mace, and it puts them in a compromising position.

What do you do when you have such sensitive information, and it pertains to the man in charge of the operation? It’s an interesting question, and clearly something that these characters are going to have to figure out over time — we just have a feeling that it won’t be easy to resolve given that Mace can serve as a worthwhile liaison between what is going on with SHIELD and also what is happening with the government. These are simply connections that Phil has not maintained during his time with the organization.

“Agents of SHIELD” will be returning to specifically kick off the LMD arc of episodes on Tuesday, January 10. This episode is going to serve as a worthy follow-up to what we see before.
