‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Will Vince Neil rock his way to the top?
Vince Neil probably has two separate camps who know him rather well at this point: Those who listen to his music, and then also those who have seen him on various reality shows over the years. He’s got quite a resume when it comes to them both, and “The Celebrity Apprentice” is his latest venture.
When you think about it, though, this may be one of the reality shows out there is best suited for him given that rock music these days is largely about building a band and figuring out the best way possible to stand out in a crowd. He also knows how to put on a performance.
Claim to Fame – Lead vocalist for the band Mötley Crüe, and beyond that, one of the most prolific reality TV celebrities out there. Some of his past credits include “The Surreal Life,” “Skating with the Stars,” and “Celebrity Wife Swap.” He knows the reality TV industry fairly well at this point.
Charity – Keep Memory Alive. It’s an organization designed to help families and those suffering with specific brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s. Like everyone else on the season, a really worthy cause.
Strengths – He’s probably better equipped for the strangeness of this environment than almost anyone else, having spent so much of his life traveling around and doing different things with his band. He also knows reality TV very well, and should be a good team player given that being in rock bands is largely about managing egos. Even if not everyone on the streets of Los Angeles would necessarily recognize him, we do think being able to market him as a “rock star” during tasks that require creativity is a great asset that he brings to the table. Also, he can sing jingles! Never underestimate the power of that.
Weaknesses – What’s Vince going to in order to really stand out from the crowd? The easy comparison that we draw here is to Dee Snider, someone who came on the show with a rock background and, at least during his first appearance, did a rather good job. Yet, at the same time his easily-identifiable weakness was that he was so under-the-radar that we never got the sense he could win.
Prediction – Maybe Vince’s ceiling is around seventh or eighth place. He’s got the ability to make it rather far on the season based on most of the skills that he brings to the table, but we’re not sure he has that extra gear that you sometimes need in this competition. We’re not sure about his fundraising skills, or if he will he will be such a contributor that Arnold Schwarzenegger will hesitate to fire him if his team struggles.
