‘The Exorcist’ fans rally together in hopes of season 2 renewal
“Longmire,” “Jericho,” “Nashville,” “Chuck.” We’re not just listing out shows here that we really like, but we’re also talking about shows that, at one point or another in their run, were saved by the fans.
Is “The Exorcist” going to be renewed for another season? At the moment, it’s up in the air, but the fans are doing the right thing and starting to think of ideas early — much in the same way that the fans of most of those shows did. The louder they are, and the longer that they make their voices heard (technically Fox doesn’t have to make a decision until May), the better their chances that the show finds a way to come back with more episodes.
Earlier today, we were sent over by Tim Childress and Jessie Thomas, two supporters of the show that are a part of the “Congregation” fan community, some of the plans for what they are going to be doing in an effort to further save the show. With that, we’re passing those plans onto you.
Come Friday, the Congregation is kicking off their “Fear the Feathers” campaign — a fun, playful way in order to reference a key moment on the show (a red feather in Regan’s bible) while encouraging Fox to make a move renewing the series. Fans around the world starting next week are going to be mailing feathers to Fox Television headquarters in Los Angeles, a move that is very reminiscent of when “Jericho” fans sent nuts into CBS in an effort to get their show renewed.
What’s another way that you can help the effort? Using the hashtag #RenewTheExorcist is a great way. Our personal advice is for fans of the show to try and recruit new viewers, encourage their friends and family in order to watch on Fox’s official site, or to get people over to watch the show on Hulu. The best way to help save the show, which we think does have a chance at renewal given its Friday timeslot, is to try and show the powers that be that you will help to monetize it. Networks think in terms of dollars and cents even more than shows they like personally.
We’ll see what happens when the future of “The Exorcist,” but we’ll have further updates along the way.
