‘Supergirl’ star Melissa Benoist files for divorce from Blake Jenner

Jenner -Mrs. Carter: Out of all of the celebrity breakup stories out there, this one makes us particularly sad.

According to a report from TMZ, “Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist has filed for divorce from her husband of the past few years in Blake Jenner, with irreconcilable differences being cited as the main reason. This news comes after Jenner appeared in two episodes of the show earlier this year as Adam Foster, the biological son of Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).

Beyond just this news coming at a time when there is so much other super-sad news out there in the celebrity world, one of the reasons why this news makes us particularly sad is that we’ve really followed both Benoist and Jenner’s stories for so many years now. We remember when Melissa was first cast on “Glee” in what was really a breakout role for her as Marley Rose, just as we remember watching Jenner on “The Glee Project.” He eventually joined the Fox series proper, where the two first started to develop a relationship. They quietly married, and while Benoist has worked on the CW series, Jenner this year appeared in two notable feature films in “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “The Edge of Seventeen.”

Moving forward, we just hope that everything that happens between the two of them is amicable, given that they’re both hard working actors and we want to see them be able to focus on their careers. Plus, seeing a whole lot more in the way of negative headlines around their split would only further aid some of the depression that many people are feeling about this at the moment.

Those looking for a respite in the form of the show after reading this news, rest assured that you’ll get a chance to see Kara and company with new episodes once more starting in January.
