Is 2017 the Year of the TV Viewer? 7 ways TV caters to viewers in the New Year
Viewers around the world are taking control of their remote. It’s surprising, but 2017 is shaping up to be the year of the viewer. Catering to the viewers and their schedules, offering new concepts to the viewer and even showcasing new episodes in ways never imagined 50 years ago.
Even before 2017 rings in and new episodes begin, the TV viewers are starting to impact what we watch today. Wondering how?
Here are 7 ways TV is catering to viewers in 2017:
7. Showrunners are hearing viewers. Social media is giving shows a megaphone to viewer’s likes, dislikes and suggestions. This input is being heard. The fans are no longer on the sideline waiting to see what happens. They fire up Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts to be heard
6. Fans are talking about shows in ways never seen before. Again, thank social media for bringing show fans together. The viewers dissect and discuss each episode and the Hollywood executives are paying attention. If shows get cancelled or moved, the viewers can have a say. And they will say what they don’t like and like loudly.
5. Streaming TV and movies is the new normal. It could be 3 a.m. and you can still watch exactly what you want to watch. Now you are in control of the TV remote. No longer do you need to be in front of the TV at a certain time or day to watch what you want. Streaming and other at-home entertainment are part of the equation.
4. Original programming is becoming easier to find! With streaming and an abundance of cable channels, TV has plenty of new shows filling the airwaves. It’s becoming less and less likely to see a repeat as competition for airtime is getting tighter.
3. Commercials aren’t as PC as they once were. There is no doubt 2017 will have fewer commercials. Super Bowl ads are cool, but for the rest of the year, there isn’t much interest in seeing pockets of ads during shows. Viewers have been vocal and they’ve turned away from networks (and shows) that pack the ads tight. In 2017, streaming programs will be the only way to turn off the commercials and people are flocking to these services.
2. Movie stars are turning to the small screen. Even the actors have heard the viewers and they are coming to TV. Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are a few of many famous faces taking parts in TV shows for different programs. Being on the small screen has become popular (and the pay for actors is good too.)
1. You can literally watch anything on TV! In 2017, there is a show on about every topic within reason (and a few crazy ones too.) The variety is endless and the opportunity to be entertained, informed or just pass the time is available by changing the channel using the remote.
In 2017, the control of the TV remote will be firmly in the hands of the viewers. Dictating what is good and what is not, no longer can the once popular critics gauge how a program will be received as the people are talking. And the viewers? Well, they know exactly what they would like to watch on TV.
