‘Gotham’ season 3 debate: Looking at the Big Bad candidates
Unfortunately, tonight we’re yet again in a situation where there is no new episode of “Gotham” coming on the air. Yet, we do always think that there is something to talk about with this show, which is why we’re going to be bringing up one of our favorite subjects in the Big Bad. This show largely works because of great villains, and there are many of them out there. Yet, at the same time it’s hard to know who is going to show up and play a super-prominent role in the story to come.
Take, for example, the Mad Hatter. Benedict Samuel is great in the part, and we’ve seen him on a few different occasions already. Yet, at the same exact time it’s not guaranteed that we’re going to be seeing him in the near future given that the story around Alice Tetch’s blood virus seems to be over for now. With that, let’s take a look at a few other intriguing candidates, and determine whether or not they have a good chance of making their presence felt in the near future.
Poison Ivy – Obviously the one with the most potential given that we know where she is in the Batman comics as opposed to where she is right now. With that said, it feels a little too early since she’s struggling still to perfect her abilities, and there’s the course the issue of her not being entirely plant-like just yet. Hopefully, we’ll get there maybe in season 4 or 5.
Jerome – It’s tempting to say that it could be him given that we’ve seen all of the little attempts at viral marketing that the show has done over the past few weeks. However, at the same exact time it’s hard to see the show getting Cameron Monaghan for a significant stretch of time mostly due to some of the work that he’s been doing on “Shameless.” Where do you fit something like this in when it comes to his schedule?
Fish Mooney – We’ve heard that Jada Pinkett Smith could be back later this season, though admittedly we’ve never been all that high on this character as supposed to some others.
Mr. Freeze or Hugo Strange – Both were great last season, but there’s been zero work on either of them coming back in the second half of the year.
Solomon Grundy or Killer Croc – Before this season, there was talk that we would be seeing them appear — at least in some version. However, often plans can change, and maybe this is also the case here.
An established regular – You can easily make the case for either Penguin or Riddler, but there aren’t a whole lot of stakes either way since we don’t have an indication that either is going any place soon on the show. Also, how do you hype up a story for characters who are already prominent? You can make a case that there more stakes around Barbara, mostly because she’s not someone you necessarily need to leave alive for Batman.
