‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Will Rams legend Eric Dickerson dominate?
Given that “The Celebrity Apprentice” is moving this season to the City of Angels in Los Angeles, it only makes some sense that you see a lot of familiar faces to California on the season. Eric Dickerson just so happens to be one of them. He may have played for some other teams in his career, but we’ll always remember him most as a member of the Los Angeles Rams and he currently spends a lot of time here. We’ll admit that we may also be a tad biased towards him given that we also attended Southern Methodist University (go Mustangs!), but for the sake of this spotlight article (which we’re doing with everyone this season), we’ll have to put on blinders to a certain extent as we try to figure out whether or not he is capable of succeeding in this ridiculous made-for-television environment.
As always, rest assured that there are no spoilers ahead.
Claim to Fame – Former NFL running back, who still holds the record for most rushing yards in a season with 2,105. He was dominant during his early years with the Rams, and he also played for the Indianapolis Colts, the Los Angeles Raiders, and the Atlanta Falcons. He’s now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Charity – Young Warriors, an organization that helps to inspire and educate young men as they help to prepare them to be strong, capable men. They teach them the right way, and also many of the life lessons that fathers traditionally teach. You can see a video about the charity at the bottom of the article.
Strengths -If you think back to how many times Dickerson carried the ball early in his career, you’re going to be reminded that this man is a workhorse. He never gives up, and he continued to fight tooth and nail for every yard he gets while out on the field. If you give him a task on this show, he’s more than likely going to give it his all.
Also, you cannot deny that he likely has an ENORMOUS contact list for fundraising tasks, especially since the Rams are now back in Los Angeles and were preparing for their first season back at the time of the show filming. He’ll know a lot of former / current football players and athletes in general from the area who may be able to help.
Weaknesses – We know there’s leadership on the field, but like with many other athletes who appear on “The Celebrity Apprentice” we of course wonder how they will be in a creative-based task, or one that requires them to act or step outside of what they tend to do. It’d be like throwing a singer into a task based on athleticism: It’s not what they’re known for, so it’s hard to gauge exactly how they will do. Dickerson is an articulate, intelligent guy, but can he flex those creative muscles? That’s what we have to see.
Prediction – Out of all the athletes taking part on the show this season, Dickerson is probably the one we’re the most confident about just based on his resume of success plus the show being set in a place that he’s well-known and has many contacts. The big question mark is whether he can succeed in the boardroom or in creative tasks, where many other athletes have struggled in the past.
