‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Mr. Gold to stay golden — and mysterious
On Christmas Day — otherwise known as a day when we spend a great deal of time thinking about silver and gold (cue the classic song from the “Rudolph” special — isn’t it only fair that we talk about a certain Mister Gold from “Once Upon a Time“? We like to think so. This is a character who hasn’t necessarily brought much merriment to the world of the show over the years, but we do still like to think that he’s an important piece to the puzzle, and he is absolutely fun to watch every single second that we see him on the show.
While we’re likely going to learn even more about the man otherwise known as Rumpelstiltskin on the second half of the upcoming sixth season (returning in March), there is apparently one thing that you aren’t going to learn anything more about: The man’s first name. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a new piece, executive producer Edward Kitsis had the following to say regarding why the show prefers to keep his Storybrooke alter-ego as-is:
“You know what makes it so awesome? That you don’t know. If I said to you, “Hey, his name is Jeff,” it loses its mystery. He has a first name: It’s Mister.”
In the end, we do absolutely see where Kitsis is coming from here, and he’s probably right. A great example here is with Mr. Big on “Sex and the City.” To us, things were a whole lot better back when we just knew him as that rather than “John.” It’s fun to have a little bit of mystery, especially if it’s something really silly like this. As for who killed Emma in the prophecy, that’s the sort of mystery that you need an answer to at some point in the future.
New episodes of “Once Upon a Time” are going to air once more in the spring. Stay tuned!
