‘Game of Thrones’ season 7: John Bradley on potential widespread impact of ending

LogoThe winds of winter are actually upon us this holiday season — though for “Game of Thrones,” we had that episode a little earlier this year. Winter is already here, and we’re now forced to merely wait and see precisely what is going to be coming up next over the course of what should be the final thirteen episodes of the series.

Before anything else, the first thing that feels assured is more bloodshed given the wars to come. We’ve got Daenerys heading to Westeros with the fleet of ships, and with a potential alliance in Dorne, she is looking all the more powerful. Meanwhile, you’ve also got out there the White Walker threat, which is something else enormous that will need to be dealt with. We’ve felt from the very beginning that the final episodes of the series should feature a unified Westeros taking on the Night’s King and his army, but time will tell if that happens and how the story ends. After all, these final episodes could dictate the show’s legacy in a rather enormous way.

This said thing is precisely what John Bradley, who plays Samwell on the series, noted as a part of a new interview with Digital Spy on the subject of the show:

“It’s interesting thinking about the end of Game of Thrones … Because we don’t know how it ends – we don’t know who wins or who loses – we’ve got no idea what kind of story we’re telling.

“We don’t know if it’s an indictment of how bad people can triumph if good men do nothing, or a redemptive story about good triumphing over evil. We just don’t know, so that mystery has fed in to everything we’ve done so far.”

Based on what A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has said in the past regarding the final legacy of the show, it’s long been our sentiment personally that the sort of ending that we end up seeing on the show is going to be one that is rather bittersweet. Maybe there will be some happiness and hope for the future, but we do very much see this coming at some sort of cost.
