‘Supergirl’ season 2: Expect Alex, Maggie to be in it for the long haul
Mrs. Carter: How strong is “Sanvers” going to be?
In the first half of season 2, “Supergirl” gave us a new couple courtesy of Alex Danvers and Maggie Sawyer, and they’ve quickly been established as one of the most beloved couples in the DC – CW universe and an inspiration, no less. Suffice it to say, there would probably be riots somewhere in the event that the show decided to split them up.
Luckily, all signs right now seem to indicate this not happening. Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg made it clear that there are no plans for anyone associated with the show to do anything to jeopardize this relationship for the time being — there may be issues along the way, but it doesn’t look like they were put together just to break up a few weeks down the road:
“The important thing is that we’re committed to this relationship and we’re committed to seeing it grow, change, blossom, and struggle, but also get stronger, deeper and more loving as we go forward … I don’t think people need to worry that suddenly this relationship is going to go by the wayside. It’s going to have it’s ups and downs, but we’re committed to Alex and Maggie — we’re as committed to Alex and Maggie as the audience is.”
Having this commitment could be especially great given that there are not exactly too many other committed relationships within the “Supergirl” world at the moment, given the sole fact that Kara and Mon-El just started to maybe be a thing while both Winn and James are firmly single. Heck, Barry and Iris on “The Flash” is really the only other long-term relationship that seems to be going on in the entire realm of the DC universe unless you include someone like Martin Stein, but his entire life is relatively complicated at the moment. Keeping Alex and Maggie together gives the show more of an anchor, and it also allows Alex to have further storytelling possibilities beyond just her sister, which is a great thing for her since much of her life has been about protecting Kara in some shape or form.
