‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas Special will have Christmas celebration, per Helen George
Just in case you were wondering as to whether or not the upcoming “Call the Midwife” Christmas Special will feel particularly Christmas-y, we’ve now got a firm answer for you: It will! The upcoming special airing on the BBC in just two days may feature one of the most dramatic departures on the series to date (the midwives are going to be heading down to South Africa to help at the understaffed and underfunded Hope Clinic), but there will be a time for a little bit of merriment before we roll around to that.
In describing further precisely what you can expect to see, series star Helen George had the following to say in a new interview per What’s On TV:
“Yes because we have Christmas before we go so you get the best of both worlds because you get the lovely Christmas Day and then we all travel out. It is different for the audience though because they will be expecting snowy, [cozy] Nonnatus House when actually it is completely far from that. These people are taken out of their comfort zones and Trixie and Barbara even share their hut together with spiders and all these tropical things!”
Yes, the idea of watching spiders on Christmas is already immediately terrifying, but hopefully whatever happens here will blow over quickly enough that we don’t have to focus on it for an extremely long period of time. There are other pressing matters, such as helping people! We know that eventually, we’ll be seeing many of the midwives make it back to Poplar, given that there is a sixth season for the show coming up in the new year, and we presume that there are going to be a wide array of familiar stories that come along with that featuring some of the characters doing more of what they do best in a more familiar setting.
