‘Project Runway’ season 15 finale: Was Erin Robertson, Laurence Basse, Rik Villa, or Roberi Parra the winner?
Tonight on Lifetime, the 15th season of “Project Runway” is coming to a close, and with that of course there were a variety of traditions: Added pressure, added stress, and Tim Gunn getting emotional — which happens often around this time and makes us appreciate him so much more. It shows that even after all this time, he doesn’t think of this as yet another job that he does to collect a paycheck and go home.
Entering the finale, there were four finalists in Erin Robertson, Laurence Basse, Rik Villa, and Roberi Parra — and of course, with that there was a divided audience as to who should win. Laurence had the most consistent run in terms of rarely ever being in danger, while Erin had by far the most interesting trajectory of the entire season: Starting out very strong in four of the first five episodes before finding herself in a patch of danger and turning everything back around in the final weeks. While these two have the most interesting arc just in terms of being at the top / the bottom, there are so many intricacies that go beyond that.
We’re going to have some further updates over the course of the show now, as New York Fashion Week is going to bring all the judges together — including guest judge Zendaya — in order to help determine who was ultimately the winner of the season.
We’ll say this about the collections: Erin’s was clearly the most out-there. Still trying to figure out what to make of it. Some of the others offered a mixture of traditional to very risky, forward-thinking styles. As someone who’s not a fashion expert and checks out the show often for Tim Gunn reactions, it’s dangerous to even offer a clear opinion in the event that we are terribly wrong.
In the end, the winner was … Erin! We had a feeling that this was coming, mostly because of the fact that the fashion world does tend to recognize this sort of bold creativity. We like some of her ideas and don’t like others, and sometimes, those are the designers who win. Of course, we would say that Laurence was our winner of choice, but we get where the judges are coming from. What we do think is that the reaction to this win is going to very mixed.
