‘Doctor Who’ showrunner on moving story from season 10 to season 11

Doctor Who -For everyone out there who loves and enjoys “Doctor Who,” we’re going to have a chance to see a tenth season in the new year really like no other. This is the first season showrunner Steven Moffat is creating knowing fully of his own plans to leave at the end of the season, and with that, there may be an added element of emotion or weight to some of the episodes.

However, at the same exact time there isn’t going to be any finality to anything that he writers, mostly because that’s not what this show is. It’s about evolving, and finding a way to continue the adventures down the line. Part of the beauty of this franchise is that there is no clear end, and The Doctor can continue to live on and tell as many stories as possible. Here is some of what Moffat had to say to Digital Spy on the subject:

“With Doctor Who, you never want to have finished the story – I’m not going to do that. I want Chris [Chibnall, the new showrunner] to come in and have a brilliant time, so I’m not going to wrap it all up … It’ll still be pushing forward. The thing is, people don’t really care about me or Chris, that’s the absolute truth. It’s heartbreaking, but it’s true – so the departure of a showrunner and the arrival of another one doesn’t really matter very much, ’cause no-one’s ever heard of us!”

This is a very funny quote from Moffat, and with that in mind we’ll give him a little bit of leeway, even if we know that what he’s saying is also not exactly true, either. Diehard fans know who he is, and many of them appreciate his work. Yet, at the end of the day we suppose his argument could still be valid given that more than anyone else, people love good stories — if there are great episodes on the air, fans will care more about that than whoever happens to make them.

The next episode of “Doctor Who” is of course the Christmas Special, which is slated to air on Sunday.
