‘Lucifer’ season 2: Don’t expect John Constantine — for now
The second season of “Lucifer” is going to be returning to Fox in the new year, and it makes sense to have a wide range of different things that you want to see play out on the show — after all, who can really blame you? It’s a show with such a heavy supernatural component and comic-book roots that there’s always going to be that thirst to be creative with it.
With that, it makes sense for John Constantine questions to be out there, given that he comes from the comics, and he fits so well within the idea of this world. He also recently had his own short-lived NBC series led by Matt Ryan, who played the title character briefly before coming over to “Arrow” for a one-episode spot. We’d like to think of this as a sign that the entire show was canon to everything that happened in the CW – DC Comics universe, but here’s the problem: If Ryan’s version crosses over to “Lucifer,” could it mean the same exact thing? We’re not sure Fox wants to get into this sort of thinking. They could always just cast a new version if they really wanted to.
Speaking in a new piece with TVLine, executive producer Ildy Modrovich made it clear that they don’t have any plans to incorporate John, at least for now:
“Never say never, but right now we have no plans for him … We might invite a little character from the comic books, Cain, at some point.”
One way or another, we do hope that there is another version of Constantine that does make his way to the air. While we’re not entirely sure precisely what that would look like, we do think that it would make for a rather fun thing to see if it was on this show, “Arrow,” or otherwise.
