‘Major Crimes’ season 5, episode 14 return date finally revealed by TNT
We know that so many people out there have been waiting to see when exactly “Major Crimes” would be returning to TNT with new episodes, and we’re now glad to finally be reporting that today! Unfortunately, we wish that we had a little bit better news to share in terms of timeslot.
The network has confirmed that the crime series is going to start up on Wednesday, February 22, and at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, which is a little bit of good news / bad news if you ask us. The good news is merely that we’re confident that there are many more good stories still to come, especially with Sharon Raydor in line to potentially get a new position and the aftermath of whatever happens with Andy following that big cliffhanger.
Now, let’s get back to the bad news, and that is the aforementioned timeslot. We don’t mind Wednesday nights so much as the fact that this is a show being thrown up against not only “Criminal Minds,” but also “Law & Order: SVU.” Basically, you’ve got three reasonably similar shows airing at the same time, catering to similar crowds. That’s not good news for any of them, even in this era where you can record some and watch later. While “Empire” isn’t the same sort of show, you have to also figure that it will eventually return and take its share of the overall viewing pool.
At the moment, “Major Crimes” has not been renewed for a sixth season. While nothing has been said about its future as of yet, we remain fairly optimistic that the powers that be will get a deal done mostly because of the sole fact that there are few other shows on TNT like it at this point, and it remains one of the network’s highest-rated shows.

To me, I think this show has such a strong fan base, TNT knows it can be thrown into any time slot and be a winner. I think when they moved it to TNT death valley and it grew in audience, they see that they can put it in what could be another open area and develop more TNT Original programming.
One other thing that I thought about is that moving it back to the 8pm time slot will allow it to rerun the previous week’s episode which was lost before. My STRONG belief is that MC:SOB is in the works. Even more now than before. This time slot will allow them launch a racier/violent/action packed SOB into the 10ET slot (to attract male demo) like they did when MC first hit the air after the closer.
Not to mention, they are moving it off the ratings radar of Monday Night Football. Studying the ratings for both, I would rather have them compete against SVU than MNF. There is a direct correlation to MNF starting and MC losing ratings, particularly in the demo. Just saying.
TNT cannot lose MC. Reilly’s shows have been massive failures. Others coming up are not getting a whole lot of buzz either.

Let’s hope the new time slot won’t do much harm. I’m not entirely optimistic, though.

I’m admittedly nervous about it…

I can’t help but think that somebody is trying to kill the show.

Finally, some more definitive information on the return date. But it comes at a cost. The competition will be tough! Does this show high confidence for the show on TNT’s part or do they actually want to suffocate one of their most successful series? I wonder…..
