‘The X Factor’ UK: Honey G talks new record deal, ‘The Honey G Show’ release

2016 has certainly been a year full of weird, shocking developments, and for some further examples of that, you just have to look at precisely what we had courtesy of Honey G on “The X Factor.” This felt at times like a character in a weird comedy sketch like one on “Saturday Night Live,” but she made it all the way into the top five of the competition. While she didn’t win, she has her first single “The Honey G Show” coming out later in the week, and she even has a record deal with Simon Cowell that allows her to produce singles — much of her future will depend on how some of these fare, but this is a better deal than what we thought she was going to get during the show.

In speaking about this offer a little bit further in a new interview on “Good Morning Britain,” the rapper had the following message to pass along:

“The official offer from Simon Cowell’s record label Syco came through over the last week and I’m really happy about that. I’m really happy Simon’s backing me. I asked Simon if he liked the single and he told me he loved it!

“My career in IT recruitment is over – which is something I’m very, very, pleased about.”

It does still remain to be seen in our eyes as to whether or not Honey’s single will sell particularly well — we did at times think she was fun on the show, but she also made it three or four weeks past her expiration date and there’s a difference between watching someone out of bemusement on TV and then actually going to a place like iTunes and buying their actual single. This is something that we imagine some people out there are going to have a far more difficult time doing.
