‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6: Should the Black Fairy be new Big Bad?
At the end of the first half of “Once Upon a Time,” what we saw was potentially the end of the Evil Queen as the central character for the time being. Given that Gideon turned her into a snake, we’re not entirely sure how else to describe it.
Now, the larger question that remains moving forward is who taught Gideon to be this way, and all signs point towards the Black Fairy. We’ve seen her briefly on the show in the past, and all signs point towards her being around for the foreseeable future. Should she be the new Big Bad for the second half of the season? There’s certainly a case to be made for it given what we know about this character so far.
1. She’s got blood ties – She is Rumpelstiltskin’s mother, and given that we spent half a season with Rumple’s father in Peter Pan as the Big Bad, why not do the same thing here? There’s certainly the backstory here to justify it.
2. You’ve got the right actress – If you saw “Dexter,” then odds are you already know that Jaime Murray can really do a good job of creeping you out. She was great in her brief appearance, and if we’re lucky enough to get a half season of her, everybody’s going to be pretty happy in the end.
3. The backstory here is crazy – She’s basically a fairy who went rogue and turned evil, lives in her separate realm where time works differently, and has a knack for snatching up babies for some unknown purpose. What about this sounds normal? There’s so much here that we want to understand, and with that, we think there’s absolutely a lot that can be mined.
4. She could eventually come to Storybrooke – Given that Gideon could eventually be involved with Emma Swan’s prophecy, she therefore has ties to almost every important character on the show. Why not play that up by having her there in person at some point?
5. The show needs significant new blood – For most of the first half of the season, the show primarily relied on the Evil Queen separate from a little bit of Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll in the early going. It feels like the time is right to bring over someone new to challenge the characters once again.
