‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Casey Affleck – Chance the Rapper show strongest since Dave Chappelle episode

SNL -The ratings are officially in now for this past episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and there seems to be one prevailing sentiment coming out of them. Luckily, it’s a positive one.

This show, which was hosted by Casey Affleck with Chance the Rapper serving as the musical guest, ended up generating a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic on the night. That marks the best overall performance of the show since the Dave Chappelle episode after the election, and while it’s not the ratings equivalent of a Christmas miracle, it’s still very good and better than almost any other scripted comedy beyond maybe “Modern Family” or “The Big Bang Theory.”

In general, season 42 is a banner year for “SNL” ratings. No matter what President-elect Donald Trump may say in various posts on his Twitter account, the ratings are such that it doesn’t appear as though it is time to retire the show anytime soon. While there have been some dud episodes (unfortunately, the Benedict Cumberbatch episode is one), there were also some great ones including the one with Chappelle and the Tom Hanks episode, which birthed one of the greatest new characters of the year in David S. Pumpkins. Even last night’s show was pretty funny, and especially was great in the first half of it. (You can read a little bit more about that by heading over to the link here.)

As for whether or not the momentum ratings-wise continues into the new year and the show hosted by Felicity Jones on January 14, that remains to be seen. The biggest thing “SNL” has going to for it is their Alec Baldwin impersonation of Trump, and so long as he continues to enjoy doing it, we presume that he’s going to be sticking around. The issue here is that after the inauguration, we could see some of the buzz start to cool off and the ratings decline a little bit with it.

For now, let us know what you think about the state of “SNL” ratings in the comments, and head over here to get some other news when it comes to “Saturday Night Live” right away! (Photo: NBC.)
