‘Gotham’ season 3: See Cameron Monaghan in (presumably) full Joker makeup!

When “Gotham” returns to Fox in the new year, there is one thing that should immediately be a cause for excitement among many fans: The return of Cameron Monaghan as Jerome! How is this possible? No one quite knows, but the actor is certainly doing his part to drum up some excitement by sharing a wide array of photos to social media, with many of them being in particular of the super-creepy variety.

The photo below of the actor, seemingly in classic Joker makeup and sporting the famous costume, was posted briefly to his official Twitter account earlier this week, but it was promptly taken down. If we were you, we’d advise you to not take that action as much of a definite sign of anything, given that this is a pattern that we’ve seen Monaghan follow at times over the course of the past couple of weeks. He’s posted cryptic images hyping up various incarnations of the Joker, and then quickly removed them. Consider this to be some viral marketing more than anything else.

Note that none of these even guarantee that we’ll see Jerome sporting any makeup at all when “Gotham” returns, or even that the character is still alive, given that we clearly saw him killed during the season 2 episode entitled “The Last Laugh.” One of the possible explanations for what we are seeing is that Jerome was evil enough to plan some sort of stunts before his death; given that this is a world where people have been brought to life before, we have to figure that this is also possible.

The tricky thing with Jerome’s future on “Gotham” is always going to be that Monaghan has another full-time job over on “Shameless,” and with that, it feels like there are only going to be so many opportunities that they’ll have to use him in a given year.
