‘The 100’ season 4 trailer is here, and survival is the key

The 100 -

Hats off to the folks over at The CW this morning, who did a tremendous job of promoting the launch of “The 100” season 4. We’ve got the first trailer for it below, and we have to say that this is all sorts of fantastic. It’s lengthy for a network TV trailer, and it very much plays out like one for a big-budget feature film, which make sense for this show since many times, that how this show feels.

First and foremost, let’s talk about what some of the stakes are here, as the group faces a nuclear threat that is said to take out a high percentage of the world as we know it within 6 months time. Add to this the fractures in all the factions, a search for strong leadership, and vast differences of opinion, and you’ve got a batch of episodes where chaos will be rampaging throughout the lands. We imagine that Clarke (Eliza Taylor) is going to be front and center for most of the story as we see her continue to fight — and take on a leadership position to boot, but as we saw in the trailer, is she going to fall victim to the radiation that’s coming or is that clip of her face covered in boils from a dream?

We also saw a major focus on Octavia who, for us, is one of the most interesting characters on the show. She started out as a child living under the floor boards of the space station with a thirst to see the world, and has grown into a fearsome warrior that wants nothing more then to save it. From what we saw in the trailer she is more then just surviving – she is thriving in this land.

As a whole, what “The 100” does best is create fascinating, complex characters, so we are interested to see how the show moves forward with creating news ones, and developing further some of the ones that it has in the wake of what was a controversial third season of the show. Of course, in many ways it’s a gift to have a show that inspires so much passion from your fans, but at the same time that comes with some risks in the event that things happen that go against what some want for the show.

The new season premieres on Wednesday, February 1, and it’s getting a pretty fantastic timeslot following “Arrow.” It’s clear with that in mind that the network still has all of the faith in the world that the show can succeed, so we’ll see if it lives up to expectations then. For now, we’ll absolutely say that it is off to a really strong start. We expected that the show would come up with a fairly-epic trailer, but this one managed to exceed our expectations.
