‘The Walking Dead’ season 7, episode 9 preview: When will Andrew Lincoln, cast return to AMC?

twdTonight on AMC, we’re getting a chance to see the end of the first half of “The Walking Dead” season 7, and with that, more or less everything that comes with it in between violence, intimidation, fear, and more or less everything in between.

Now, we’re back at the point where there is an annual hiatus, and we’re stuck waiting for an incredibly long time to see what some of the future will hold. While there is no confirmed return date as of yet for the show, our guess at the moment is that we’ll have a chance to see Andrew Lincoln and company back on the air in February. The more you think about it, the more that date makes sense given that almost every season to date returns around that time.

One there is an official date, we’ll update this accordingly.

Update: The show will return on Sunday, February 12 with new episodes!

As for whether or not there is anything that the show can do to turn around some ratings that have been in a slow slide for a little while now, we do think that a lot of that starts with changing around the pacing of the episodes, or at the very least formatting them a little bit differently than they have in the past. We don’t necessarily need standalone episodes that are themed around a single character or location; maybe if this show had 22 episodes rather than 16, it’d be different. Instead, we’d prefer that the show adopted a strategy a little more similar to “Game of Thrones” where several characters moved forward in a single episode, and you got a little bit more of a sense as to the forward movement every single time. It’d further offer incentives to watch shows live, given that this especially is something that may or may not be happening with the majority of live viewers at this point.

Beyond this, we don’t necessarily think the show is facing any overarching problems. While Negan may be somewhat polarizing as a villain, at least he is a compelling villain and that’s more than we’ve had on the show in a while. It just needs to find a way to speed up the pace a little bit so that every episode matters as much as either a premiere or a finale.
