‘Timeless’ winter finale: Should Lucy give her fiance Noah a chance?

Timeless -

Mrs. Carter: Does “Timeless” have the most unusual romantic subplot on TV?

We don’t have to think too much about this question before handing down the following answer: “Absolutely.” Earlier this season, Lucy changed so many things in the past that when she returned to the present, she did so with a new man in her life: Her fiance Noah, who has photo albums and memories of the time that they’ve spent together. He seems to be a rather nice, loving guy who supports and cares for her deeply.

Yet, at the same time, there is clearly a certain degree of disconnect here, since it’s choosing who to love versus having external factors dictate it for you. From Lucy’s point of view, there was no power or choice here, and she simply came back with a man that a different version of her clearly fell in love with — and like we said, we understand why. It’s just hard for her to get to that level with someone she doesn’t know and doesn’t understand — especially when he wouldn’t understand that she’s a time-traveling historian and he only exists as a result of her past actions.

We know at the moment the story appears as though Lucy is going to eventually call off the engagement, even if she doesn’t tell him the truth about what really is going on with her. What we wonder, however, is this: Down the road, could she find him again and start anew? If there’s something that she once liked about Noah, maybe there’s a certain degree of fate that they are meant to be? It’s something that could be fun to explore, at least potentially more so than a Lucy / Wyatt romance right now given that so much of his character has been predicated on trying to change the future in order to bring his wife back.

Here’s another twist to the story: If Lucy managed to achieve her own goal of bringing her sister back after erasing her, would Noah still be out there? Could she start things anew with him from the start? Both are extremely interesting possibilities that we’d love to see the show explore a little bit further, given that we hope that this character has more opportunities to shine moving forward.
