‘Outlander’ season 3: Exec on Jamie / Gevena, powerful premiere, and more

Jamie -

December can at times be a relatively quiet month when it comes to television news, especially for a show like “Outlander” that won’t be premiering until the spring. Luckily, executive producer Maril Davis was kind enough to do a question-and-answer session with fans last night on Twitter, and offered some assorted insight on production, the new season, and the differences between what is is the Diana Gabaldon books versus what ended up on the screen.

To go along with Davis’ own comments, we’ll be bringing in a little bit of our own insight in the process.

The Jamie / Geneva controversy – This particular scene within Voyager was, per our own research (we’re not a book reader, so we can’t bring that particular perspective), one that generated a good bit of discussion as to the nature of Jamie’s actions. In response to a question about the scene, Davis said the differences between the show’s depiction of the event and the book will “change the conversation.”

One question that does ring in our head is whether the show will face similar scrutiny to what “Poldark” did earlier this year for a scene featuring Ross and Elizabeth, one that was meant to be more ambiguous on the on-air version than it was in the source material. Whether or not the show actually achieved that is a subject up for debate.

Of course, the print shop – Maybe this is already out there, but we would absolutely die with delight if someone made a YouTube parody about the print shop set to the music of “Thrift Shop.” If only we were talented enough in that department…

Anyhow, doesn’t Davis echo our excitement for this particular reunion scene perfectly?

An emotional first episode – Apparently, the premiere episode is going to be powerful, given that Davis claims that she teared up watching a rough cut of it. It’s probably fair to say that we will do the same thing. (For those wondering, “Faith” and “Dragonfly in Amber” were the two episodes that really did this to us in season 2.)

No decision yet on where season 4 will be filmed – We know parts of the third season are eventually going to be filmed in South Africa, but beyond that it’s all too early to tell. For now, let’s just be grateful that we are even getting a fourth season for sure!
