‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: What to expect from John Cena, Maren Morris
What’s a little bit odd entering this weekend’s show, however, is that Cena has yet to actually be featured in a promo with a cast member. Instead, you’ve got him in the video below basically appearing in the famous John Cena meme that’s really many months old at this point — granted, we still don’t hate the show for trying to capitalize on its success now, given that they haven’t exactly had Cena on their show in order to do something with him over the past year.
So what do we expect from John tonight? Mostly some big, broad comedy with him making fun of himself, and mixing it up with some cast members in the process. It’s not fair to compare him to Dwayne Johnson given that he was one of the best hosts the show’s seen over the past few seasons, but we do expect him to be equally game and also just as willing to do physical stuff. Given that they both come from that sort of performance realm, it makes the most sense to go in that direction over something super-subtle.
Will there be a cameo from another wrestling icon? We’d be surprised, but at the same time we’re also not ruling it out.
As for Morris, the singer is best known for “My Church,” and may not be that familiar to most “SNL” viewers out there. This is a chance for her to get a spotlight, and potentially appeal to a different audience with her music. It’s an opportunity you don’t really get on many other shows.
