Ratings: ‘Notorious’ finale sinks; ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ falls back; ‘Pitch’ finale rises
There were a lot of season and midseason finales on Thursday night, and we do think that there is something to be taken from their ratings in terms of determining the future of these shows. Suffice it to say, there is some good and bad news ahead.
Fox – We’re starting over here today to deliver the good news regarding the “Pitch” finale — its numbers are up! With a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, the show likely boosts its renewal odds slightly. We are still worried about the show’s future given that these are still CW numbers at best, but the critical acclaim and DVR figures may help to get the show at least one more batch of episodes — even if there’s not any more than that.
For those wondering, the “Taraji’s White Hot Holidays” special drew only a 0.9 rating.
CBS – With “The Big Bang Theory” in repeats, it was a little bit of a surprise to see “The Great Indoors” rise to a 1.5 rating, and it’s not the only CBS show to improve versus its other recent outing. “Pure Genius” also rose to one of its highest rating since the pilot in a 1.0. “Mom” (1.4) was up slightly, while “Life in Pieces” (1.2) suffered a tiny drop.
NBC – It’s just football; how much do you really want to know other than a 3.7 preliminary rating?
ABC – “The Great American Baking Show” (0.9) continued to show that it is no “The Great British Bake Off” in terms of generating huge numbers; to think, that show delivers exponentially higher ratings in a country with a smaller pool of viewers. This is still a good rating in comparison to the “Notorious” finale, which fell to a 0.5 and all but guaranteed its cancellation at the end of the season.
The CW – “Legends of Tomorrow” dropped to a 0.7 for its midseason finale, which was expected given that the crossover event was over. Meanwhile, “Supernatural” was reasonably steady with a 0.6 for its own midseason finale.
