‘Pitch’ season 2: Show exec hopeful on future
Last night, the “Pitch” season finale aired complete with an injury, some complications in the clubhouse, and also a little bit of romance. This was certainly an ending that begged for more episodes in the future, but for the time being, there’s no confirmation that the show will get that.
We wrote last night that we’re certainly nervous about a second season, given the lower ratings in the live+same day format; if there is a sign of hope, though, it stems from the show having a loyal following already, and also that Fox isn’t exactly rolling out the hits these days. The show is doing better than “Scream Queens” and “The Exorcist,” which marks at least a small percentage of their lineup.
For the time being, co-creator Rick Singer certainly seems hopeful about the series’ odds moving forward, and went on to say the following to TVLine:
“There’s an enormous amount of love for the show internally, on a creative level, from both the studio and the network. They recognize how special it is, and we certainly got an indication from that, that they are inclined to do more. We certainly haven’t heard anything official, and nothing’s a given, but I certainly like our chances, and I think that what’s great is clearly the people who are connecting with the show are connecting passionately.”
The unfortunate part of the finale to us is precisely how long we’re going to have to wait now to learn about its future. Fox doesn’t have to announce a decision until May, and there may not be a whole lot of an incentive for them to say anything before then. Why rush a decision when they don’t have to? They may be more than fine to chill out, take their time, and figure this one out a little bit down the road once they see how everything else is faring. As we said earlier – we are nervous about this one getting a second shot.
For now, stay tuned, and be sure to click the ratings button at the top of the page (look in the menu if you’re on mobile) for daily updates. We’ll update you with the “Pitch” final ratings later in the day. (Photo: Fox)
